Project SIerra

Project SIerra is Soroptimist International’s Quadrennial Project for 2007-2011.  A partnership with Hope and Homes for children, the project will concentrate on the most alienated and marginalised children and families in Sierra Leone, a country devastated by war for over 10 years.

There are three pilot elements to the project, which will be shared with other Non Governmental Organisations in Sierra Leone and other developing countries, thereby benefiting generations to come.

The three components are:

1 – Young Mother Support

2 – Children Living Alone

3 – Integrated Child and Family Support

As part of our support in Aylesbury, we have organised fund raising events including our own local Project SIerra walk for those who were not able to join the Hyde Park event in 2007 and a loose change collection at Business Meetings. In conjunction with other Clubs in the London Chiltern’s Region we are collecting old bras as part of the “Bag a Bra” campaign. By November 2009 we had collected 240 kilos across the region with Aylesbury and District contributing just under 90 kilos.
