Welcome to Beckenham Soroptimists

The Beckenham & District club is a lively group combining the enjoyment of friendship and social gatherings with fund raising and our programme action activities. The club was founded 60 years ago; Croydon Club is our ‘mother club’ and we retain close links. Whilst the majority of our members live in the London Borough of Bromley we welcome women working in the area or living in other areas.

Meetings are held in the Beckenham Methodist Church on the first and third Mondays of each month except August. We welcome visitors to our speaker meetings so we can share the expertise of our speakers and the refreshments afterwards. Please see our programme page for more details. Members also meet together in smaller groups according to their interests- for example a book group and two Mah Jong groups. We plan to develop a craft group over the next year.

We support local, national and international charities and projects through fundraising and by giving individual and group service. See the Projects and news pages for more details.

Our  Presidents for 2012/2013 are Dinah Scudder and Karen Shanley

Dinah and Karen’s  choice of charity to support this year is Hope for Tomorrow. The charity was started in 2003 to respond to the difficulties experienced by people needing chemotherapy, when long distances have to be travelled to access treatment, at a time of considerable stress for them and their families. So far two mobile chemotherapy units have been funded at the cost of £150,000 each. More information is available on their website- www.hopefortomorrow.org.uk
