Soroptimist International of Birmingham Central (SICB) Club

80 Years of Service,  80 Years of Campaigning, 80 Years of Making a Difference

Welcome to Soroptimist International Central Birmingham (SIBC) Club. We are one of 12 Clubs in the Midland Arden Region which is one of the 23 Regions that make up Soroptimist International Great Britain & Ireland (SIGBI). Our Club was formed on the 24th of October in 1928, the sixth Club to be formed in the UK. The Club is led by a President who is elected annually and is supported by an Executive Committee comprising a President Elect, Vice President, Club Secretary, Programme Action Officer and others.

For 80 years, we have given service and influenced policy in human rights, the advancement of education, furtherance of health, relief of poverty and distress by fund raising and lobbying. We are currently supporting the work of Project Sierra and other international initiatives contributing to combating poverty, HIV/AIDS and ensuring provision of clean water. Project Sierra is a four year partnership between Soroptimist International and Hope & Homes for Children which aims to transform the lives of some of the most deprived women and children in the world. Our Partners are worldwide and they include Voluntary Services Overseas, United Nations and other SI Federations. We develop friendships and have fun through the work we do to promote international goodwill and understanding.

We meet twice each month except in August. A Business Meeting is held on the first Tuesday of the month and a Supper Meeting on the third Tuesday of the month. In October the Supper Meeting is replaced by a special lunch or dinner to celebrate our Club Charter Anniversary and in January there is also one combined Supper and Business Meeting.

Meetings are held at: The Chamber of Commerce, 75 Harborne Road, Edgbaston, B15 3DH 0121 454 6171 at 6.15pm for 6.30pm.

Regional Council Meetings

Regional Meetings are held three times a year and the Annual General Meeting is in July. The Regional meetings are on Saturdays. The Council Meeting takes place in the morning, followed by lunch and an afternoon speaker. Regional Council Meetings are scheduled to coincide with International Days such as The Human Rights Day in December.
