President’s message
It is my privilege to become again President of Soroptimist International Blackburn. I was last president of the club in 2001 exactly 10 years ago. I had a wonderful year then and I am sure that this year will again be full of fun and friendship.
We have a varied programme for the year and our Programme Action Speakers range from ‘Fairtrade’ to ‘Lifeline’ (which is a UK led organisation involved with drug abuse, alcohol abuse, drug addiction and related disorders) and also a local Scout group and their work with ‘Aid for Romania’. We are doing conservation work in our local Corporation Park and some Fund Raising events. We are also exploring ways of doing ‘hands on work’ in the community.
During the year I intend to support various local charities suggested by club members, as I want them to be fully involved in the work done by the club. Some of our members are doing the ‘Race for Life’ and those that aren’t running are supporting us!
Our fundraising events this year include a Quiz Night, a Race Night, a “Poetry, Pasta and Pimms Evening” a Cup Cake Housey Housey, a Friendship Evening, and a Treasure Hunt with a Difference.
I hope the club enjoys the year as much as I will and if you feel like joining us at any of our meetings and fund raising events then the first event is the Quiz Night at Wilpshire Golf Club on 9th June 2011 at 7.30. Or ring Sally on 0775 7273306.
