18th October Anti Slavery Day
Members marked the UK’s Anti-Slavery Day ( Oct 18th) by holding a candle lighting ceremony at the club’s business meeting. A candle was lit for each form of modern day slavery. Amongst those taking part in the ceremony were Marjorie Taylor (second from the left) the club’s newest member who joined the Blackburn club that evening and one of its long-standing members, Honorary member Marjorie Haddock (second from the right).Lobbying postcards were also completed for the “Abolish Slavery in London” (Olympic Games).
**On November 25th the club will have a stall in Blackburn Shopping Mall marking the UN Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The club has written its own flyer highlighting all types of violence and a list of useful local and national phone numbers.
Publicity will be distributed to the general public from all local organisations concerned with violence, plus the Purple Teardrop publicity and Home Office posters, regarding abuse amongst young people.
