Welcome to SI Cambridge

King's College in winter

Welcome to the Cambridge Branch of Soroptimist International, the world-wide women’s organisation that promotes equality for women, human rights and seeks through our service projects to promote education and training particularly for women and girls.

SI Cambridge seeks to provide friendship, fun and service opportunities for women who are seeking to make a difference to the world both locally and internationally. Locally members of the branch have helped at a number of events including stewarding at the Oxfam Walk; holding a coffee morning to raise funds for the Friends of Whitworth House; stewarding and taking part in the Bridge the Gap walk to support the Arthur Rank Hospice in Cambridge.

Our club is based in Cambridge but we have members from all round our area. We are an active club of business and professional women. If you live or work in Cambridge, Ely, Huntingdon, Saffron Walden or in one of the villages near-by this could be the group for you.

The club meets at 8.00pm usually on the second and fourth Mondays of the month at the Quy Mill Hotel. The first meeting is usually devoted to a Programme Action or project related talk followed by club business and the second to a speaker on a topic of local or national interest. A recent speaker was Councillor Sheila Stuart of the Friends of Whitworth House, which is a registered charity, formed to provide support for vulnerable, homeless young women in Cambridge.

On February 27th we will look forward to welcoming Hannah Dunleavy, a journalist at the Cambridge News, whose talk will be entitled ‘Media Madness’.

Our past member June Snowden’s talk, ‘Paradise or poverty island: volunteering in St Lucia’,  will take place on March 26th.
