At their AGM in April, Cannock Soroptimists were reminded by out-going President Ronnie Reynolds of the many events and activities the club had been involved in throughout the year – from afternoon teas to gathering tents at the V Festival; from sponsored bus rides to promoting Cannock Lottery; from providing toiletries for Pathway to helping with can-shakes for St Giles – and much, much more! All of these had been thoroughly enjoyed by those taking part and had helped those in need.
Over £6,000 was raised by SI Cannock and District between April 2010 and April 2011, with almost £1,200 donated to Starlight, one of President Ronnie’s charities for the year and £1,880 donated to SNAP on the Pye Green Road, President Ronnie’s second charity of the year. £1,185 was raised to fund a crèche in a South African township; £900 paid for a grinding mill in a village in Kenya; £400 was sent to the International Project in Sierra Leone, £165 to the International President’s Appeal and £406 to Edward’s Trust. In addition £180 has funded the training for a guide dog for the Blind and £250 will be sent to the International Emergency Appeal to help those suffering from recent disasters in Japan.
President Ronnie congratulated everyone on their tremendous efforts and inventiveness and thanked all members for the parts they had played, particularly those who had held office during the year.
