SI Cannock member running to raise money for the Purple Teardrop Campaign.

Carolyn Dyer, a member of Soroptimist International Cannock & District, took up running a few years ago. As well as achieving for herself, each time she runs she promotes the work done by her club and, indeed, by Soroptimists all over the world. For many of her runs she gets sponsorship for a current project being supported by her club.

A few weeks ago, she took part in the Greater Manchester 10K run. On this occasion she wanted to raise awareness of the Purple Teardrop Campaign, a campaign originated by SI Poole but being taken up by many other Soroptimist clubs in the UK, which brings to the attention of the public issues of trafficking of women and young girls. As Carolyn was unwell before the run she wasn’t able to obtain as much sponsorship as usual, but her fellow Soroptimists made sure that she was able to donate £100.00 to the campaign. Despite feeling unwell Carolyn actually ran her best time ever!

The Cannock club feel strongly about the issue of trafficking, which goes on all around us and isn’t confined to other countries or to large cities. Over the next year they will be developing ways to let the public know of this issue, including signs to look for and how to bring concerns to the attention of the authorities.
