SI Cannock to help at Cannock Carnival

Soroptimists are asking the
people of Cannock to help them with their
continued support of Pathway, the local refuge for women victims of domestic
violence, by bringing along to their stall at Cannock Carnival on July 16th
whatever they can afford to give– a bar of soap, a toothbrush, shower gel,
shampoo.  The refuge is in need of such
items of toiletries, along with new underwear for women and children and basic
supplies such as tea and coffee

The women – and their children –
enter the refuge with nothing other than the clothes they are wearing at the
time. Throughout the year Soroptimists provide welcome bags of toiletries for
any woman who needs to make use of the refuge and home items for them when they
are ready to be re-housed.

SI Cannock & District are
continuing their support of Chase 3 Cannock Traders by being involved in this
year’s Carnival.  Along with other
service clubs Cannock Lions and Cannock Rotary, Soroptimists will help to
steward the event.  They will join with
Cannock Lions to decorate a float for the procession – the theme is ‘Mardi
Gras’ – and they will have stalls in the town centre.

Members of the Soroptimist club
will be at the stalls all day.  They will
be there to answer any questions about the work they do and will be promoting a
new venture, Purple Teardrop, which is concerned with the issue of trafficking
of women and girls.  They will also be
accepting your donations of goods for Pathway.
Please help if you can – your donation will certainly make a difference
to women and children at their time of greatest need.  It is envisaged that the Soroptimist stand
will be in Market St – club members look forward to greeting you!
