About our Club
Come and join SI Carmarthen – you will make new friends, have a lot of fun and feel that you are making a difference to the lives of women and children.
Our club was chartered in 1947 and we have an active membership of women engaged in a diverse range of professions and voluntary work. Our members work in the public sector, banking, the ministry, law and teaching, and many own their own businesses. We own a large house where we hold our meetings, which we have divided into nine flats, originally for ‘genteel ladies’ but now for those people who require accommodation. We support our local Women’s Aid; fundraise for the local community as well as abroad; support a school for the blind in Patagonia; sponsor a child in Sri Lanka and have friendship links in Nigeria and Kenya. We collect bras and jewellery, provide teas for the elderly once a month, and knit squares for people in Africa. We have interesting speakers at our meetings, and many of us attend regional meetings and Soroptimist Conferences – the next one being in Montreal, Canada.
We meet on the first and third Tuesday of the month in Greenhill House, Greenhill, Penlan,Carmarthen at 7pm. We also meet bimonthly on a Wednesday afternoon to enable older members to attend. Our fees are £65 per year.
