President’s message

Welcome to the website of SI Castleford, Normanton & District. I joined Soroptimist International after retiring five years ago so, as a relative novice, I feel honoured to be President of my club.

I have had the privilege of learning about Soroptimism not only through the expertise of my club’s previous presidents, officers and members, but the wider network of the Yorkshire region and Federation conferences. In my own club, I feel proud of the work members have done in supporting our local Women’s Refuge, homeless people in the locality, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Water Aid, Alzheimer’s Society, as well as Project Sierra, Zimbabwe and many more needy causes.

This year, my focus will be disadvantaged young people, which links with the new Federation project Education and Leadership. We have already had a speaker from the Prince’s Trust, together with a delightful young lady, who, through the help of the Trust now runs her own photography business.

I am thoroughly looking forward to my year as President. Of course, as well as all the hard work we plan to do, there are many enjoyable social events in the diary, including lunches, afternoon teas, visits – and bowling to keep us all fit!

We would be delighted to welcome new members to the club. We meet on the first and third Monday of the month, so ladies, if you are looking for a new and exciting venture, come along to meet us and make new friends.
