About our Club

Soroptimist International is a service organisation for professional and business women who use the expertise developed in their working lives to help advance the status of women and children locally, nationally and internationally. Soroptimist International is privileged to hold consultative status with the United Nations and has representatives attached to the five principal centres: New York, Paris, Vienna, Rome and Geneva.

SI Cheltenham and District meets at 7.30 pm on the 3rd Monday of each month (except August) at The Victory Club, Burlington House, Lypiatt Rd, Cheltenham GL50 2QJ. Members are drawn from a wide area including Stroud, Gloucester, Upton upon Severn, Tewkesbury and Stow on the Wold.  We welcome visitors who would like to learn more about the club to our meetings and also to our social events. 

We undertake a range of activities in a programme which aims to mix the social and serious aspects of being a Soroptimist. Fundraising for Soroptimist charities (see below) usually involves social events, and we also enjoy the opportunity to meet socially at other times. Our monthly Speaker Meetings cover topics related to Soroptimist aims as well as others of more general interest.

At the centre of our club activities is the Soroptimist commitment to helping women and children both locally and in the wider international community – known in Soroptimism as Programme Action.  For example locally we are supporting St Vincents, the Battledown Centre for Children & Families and the Women’s Refuge, through activities,and/or fundraising.

The Club will be supporting the Soroptimist International 3E Leadership Project, “Education, Empower, Enable”, in both its international and local dimensions.  It will also support the SIGBI 3E Project; Healthcare in the Gambia, together with the International President’s Charity in December and Water Aid.
