SI International Eisteddfod – Llangollen
Each year Soroptimists from Clubs throughout the Region participate in running the Friendship and Information Centre at the prestigious Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.
The Eisteddfod dates back to 1947, when the first event was held in this little Welsh town. The concept was the promotion of peace following the second World War. Today musicians and dancers come to Llangollen from all over the world to participate in the various competitions.
During the day time craft stalls surround the field and there is a wonderful atmosphere as the various singers and dancers in national costume mingle with local people and visitors. In the evenings concerts are held in the main arena – these often feature international stars from the world of music.
The tent is managed by a sub-committee of the Cheshire, North Wales & Wirral Regional Council who meet four times per year to plan the event. It is a wonderful opportunity to showcase some of our project work and also to introduce visitors, many of whom are from overseas, to Soroptimist International.
This year the Eisteddfod will be held from 9th -14th July. Do come along and visit us.
