Eisteddfod Friendship and Information Centre – 2012

International Eisteddfod 2012

Once again Soroptimists from clubs throughout the Region participated in running the above centre at the International Eisteddfod in Llangollen.

This year our main display stand featured the 3E  Project: Healthcare,  in which we are working in The Gambia with our new partners, the charity Maternal and Child Health Advocacy International (MCAI).

We also had a stand highlighting another new partnership project with the charity Mary’s Meals.  Beside the stand was a table with examples of items needed for the related BackPack Project, whilst throughout there was a DVD running showing pictures of the project in action. This proved to be of great interest to the school children visiting and many took information about this project back to their schools.

An interactive project  involved the children in drawing on cut out crowns and tiaras and this proved to be popular, especially during several periods of rainfall!

We  had several ‘high profile’ visitors, including the Under Secretary of State for Wales, David Jones MP, local MP, Susan Elan Jones, the Mayor and Mayoress of Wrexham, as well as Dr Helen Paterson, Chief Executive of Wrexham  Council and herself a member of SI Wrexham.

During the week we spoke about Soroptimist International to many interested women, including some from overseas, and we hope that we have persuaded at least some of them to join their nearest club.
