International Eisteddfod 2011Admiring the Bee Plus ProjectSecretary of State for Wales visits the Centre this year.

We were delighted this year to welcome The Rt. Hon. Cheryl Gillan MP – Secretary of State for Wales, pictured here with members from South Caernarfon, Ellesmere Port and Llandudno.

Other visitors included Hilary McGuill, Chair of Flintshire County Council and Susan Elan Jones, MP for Clwyd South, who showed particular interest in the display on Trafficking.

Also featured this year was the Bee Plus Project and a World Map showing the location of countries with Soroptimist Clubs.

LIME 2011

Receiving a Best Practice Award In October 2010, at the Federation Conference held in Manchester, the Region received a Best Practice Award.  This award, for our work over a number of years, was nominated in the Programme area of International Goodwill and Understanding and was presented to Tent Committee Chair, Anne MacDonald, and Committee Member and former Secretary, Sue Taylor, by Assistant Programme Director, Talat Pasha.

Soroptimist Hospitality TentOne of the jewels in our crown is that, for one week in July each summer, we play host to the International Musical Eisteddfod held in Llangollen.  There, members from each of the clubs in the Region run a Hospitality Tent.

Within the tent the various clubs mount recent displays of the project work that they have been doing during the year.  The tent gives us a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate International Goodwill and Understanding to visitors from all over the world and, in along with showcasing our project work, can sometimes help to recruit new members to the organisation.

The tent is managed by a sub-committee of the Cheshire, North Wales & Wirral Regional Council, which meets four times per year.

In 2009 Past President Mair Jones and members of SI Nantwich presented a bench to Eisteddfod President, Terry Waite CBE.  (Where Have All the Chairs Gone?)

Tree of Peace

In 2010 we submitted messages and poems for the Tree of Peace – these were later published in a small booklet which can be purchased from the Eisteddfod Office.
