Press Release
A million thanks for Soroptimists
Soroptimists are celebrating their contribution to a one million pound fund helping women and girls in Sierra Leone to rebuild their lives after 20 years of civil war.
A cheque for 1 million pounds was presented to partner organisation, Hope and Homes for Children at the Soroptimist annual conference in Brighton. 1200 members of Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland were there.
The four year appeal was a joint effort by the 90 thousand members of Soroptimist International in 124 countries across the world. A third of a million pounds was raised in Britain alone.
Alison Sutherland, the International Project Liaison for Project SIerra, couldn’t be at the Conference, but sent this message from Sierra Leone: “I have seen first-hand how Project SIerra has made a real difference to the lives of so many women, children and their families in need. Reaching the £1 million target is an amazing innovative fundraising effort.”
