Teddy Bears on Parade at Hospice

soroptimist president judging teddybears eventPresident Maggie recently undertook SI Crosby’s regular summer task – to help judge the annual competition at the Teddy Bears’ Picnic organised by St Joseph’s Hospice (Jospice).

With the Mayor of Sefton, Councillor Maureen Fearn (herself a Soroptimist, in the Southport Club) and her Consort, Mr Frank Winrow, President Maggie scrutinised the parade of bears. This is a hotly-contested event, with dozens of entrants proudly showing-off their furry friends and clamouring for the judges’ attention. After much discussion the judges awarded prizes in the various categories and posed for photographs with the winners and with Pat Murphy, Jospice’s Director of Fundraising (and a Crosby Soroptimist).

As usual, several members of SI Crosby volunteered their services on the day to staff sideshows and to work ‘behind the scenes’. The fine weather brought out the crowds and the Soroptimists were kept busy, particularly serving refreshments. This event is always hard work – but always great fun in aid of this good cause.
