“Our bowling team has once again had a successful and enjoyable bowling season,” said captain Shirley Smith. After some keenly-contested games against other clubs over the summer SI Crosby reached the final of the regional bowls competition. This was held at Windle on a lovely dry and sunny day. The team eventually came third, behind SI Liverpool (who won the “President’s Rose Bowl”) and SI St Helens.
In addition, several Crosby players qualified to take part in the region’s individual knockout competition for the season’s high-scoring non-league players. In a nail-biting three-way final, Crosby’s Miriam Lucy and Pat Usher narrowly lost to Hazel Landon of SI Widnes. The winner for the second year running, Hazel was presented with the “Tricia Fahey Cup”, by SI Crosby President Maggie Tatam. The cup is named in honour of Crosby’s Tricia Fahey who was Regional President in the 1980s and who, during her term of office, inaugurated the annual bowling competition.
Crosby’s captain Shirley added, “This year several of our club members have tried their hand at bowling for the first time, and have very quickly developed some expertise. So we look forward to another round of friendly, competitive games in 2011.”
