Soroptimists in Action, Supporting Local Hospice

The Christmas fair is an important fundraising event for St Joseph’s Hospice (Jospice). This year the Soroptimists managed the kitchen to provide refreshments for stallholders and visitors. Tea was brewed, sandwiches were piled high, cakes were laid out temptingly – and business was brisk.

Jospice organised two Santa Dashes this year. For both, the Soroptimists carried out the admin, registering ‘dashers’, handing out Santa suits and welcoming everyone afterwards. President Maggie also decided to ‘dash’, and was rewarded with her medal.

The annual ‘Light Up A Life’ service is a moving occasion at Jospice, as people gather to remember loved ones who have passed away. Crosby’s Soroptimists once again organised refreshments for those who attended.

Pat Murphy, the hospice’s Director of Fundraising (and a member of SI Crosby) said, “At Jospice we are always grateful for the help that our volunteers give us, year after year. The Soroptimists have supported us for a long time, and I know I can rely on them to ‘get on with the job’ when we are organising an event.”
