President Maggie and the members of SI Crosby recently hosted the club’s annual Charter Dinner at West Lancashire Golf Club. Principal guests were the Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside, Dame Lorna Muirhead DBE and the Mayor of Sefton, Councillor Maureen Fearn. The Mayor is a member of Crosby’s sister club, SI Southport.
The Lord Lieutenant proposed the toast to Soroptimist International. In response the President of SI South Lancashire Region, Jenny Stanistreet (a member of SI Crosby), gave a short account of the club’s recent achievements.
The guest speaker was Professor Peter Calverley MB, FRCP, specialist in respiratory medicine – and President Maggie’s husband. Taking as his theme “In sickness and in health”, Professor Calverley ranged widely over personal and professional issues, plus he entertained the guests with a selection of anecdotes from his long and distinguished career.
