The ‘Bear’ Necessities

president sandy at jospice teddy bears picnicThe most challenging task in the presidential year? President Sandy Taylor, of SI Crosby, found out just how difficult it is to weigh up the merits of children’s favourite toys when she was on the judging panel at Jospice’s recent Teddy Bears’ Picnic. The president of SI Crosby has, for many years, been asked to be one of the judges, alongside the Mayor of Sefton. The current mayor, Councillor Paul Cummins, made it to Jospice just in time for the parade of teddy bears, having attended a very different parade – as it was Armed Forces Day – in Southport.

The annual Teddy Bears’ Picnic raises much-needed funds for St Joseph’s Hospice (Jospice) in Thornton. In excellent weather the event attracted dozens of children keen to show off their bears, and hundreds of visitors looking for a bargain or just an enjoyable afternoon out. As usual, Crosby’s Soroptimists were on hand, volunteering on stalls and behind the scenes.

President Sandy said, “It was a great experience to judge the competition – but oh, so difficult. Still, everyone had a good time and our club members were delighted to help out.”
