Our club president Roslyn Byrne and Breda McCabe met with Dr Sheila Javadpour and Ms Fiona Brennan, Clinical Nurse Manager from the Cystic Fibrosis Unit in our Lady’s Children’s Hopsital in Crumlin.

There are 1100 CF patients in Ireland, 55% are children and 45% are adults and there has been an urgent need to update the units in the Hospital. Through funds raised, the 200 sq metres 4 patient rooms all with ensuites are now completed. They are well kitted out with a lounge/kitchenette for parents and a nurse station. The isolation rooms themselves mean that patients can be treated comfortably and the children can be with their parents, as there are clever wardbrobe beds in each room. Other rooms include an activity room, and areas for children to attend school and study for exams. Outside there is a little garden area.

These units allow for the children with CF to be free from contracting bugs from other people sharing their rooms. Our money will be used for a good cause within these units.
This project was called 65Roses Soroptimist National Project in 2009-2011, where 20 Soroptimist Clubs in the Republic fundraised and raised awareness in order to ameliorate the needs of people with Cystic Fibrosis.
The goal was to raise €100,000 over two years and thanks to Marie-Therese and Breda who in their presidency year of our club raised €4,122.00 which we donated to Crumlin last Monday.
