ALONG with Soroptimist clubs at Winchester and Southampton we hosted a visitor from Estonia under the Grant of Friendship scheme.
Anu Ulp, a member of the Tartu Soroptimist club, trained as a psychologist but is working in the Human Resources department of a company making and selling mobile phones.
On the day we hosted her, we visited Portsmouth City Museum where one of our members, Ros Hardiman, is a curator. Five members joined us for lunch, one of them a former HR department manager, now working in the same field in Portsmouth University.
In the afternoon Anu chose trips to the Spinnaker Tower and the historic dockyard. While there, we toured Nelson’s flagship HMS Victory and Anu was photographed wearing Nelson’s hat!
Afterwards, there was a short interval for shopping at Gunwharf Quays followed by a visit to Portchester Castle.
Six club members joined us for dinner at Greens restaurant in Wickham in the evening.
*The Grant of Friendship is an award made every two years by Soroptimist International Southern England to a Soroptimist from outside the UK. The aim is to enable women to benefit from a short stay in the region, for example by improving their spoken English or visiting facilities or workplaces relevant to their jobs.
