International Literacy Day 2011
To celebrate this day the Education Group supported by other members of the club visited all the local Primary Schools in the area to lead assembly and read stories, thus informing them about Literacy for children in Sub Sahara Africa. We were made very welcome in all the schools and the children and staff were very interested in our Soroptimist “uniform” and the work we were doing. The children were fascinated by the work of Book Aid International, especially the Camel Library and many were able to empathise with the excitement that the children felt when the Library was coming to their schoool.
