About Our Club
Gravesend Soroptimist Club works for women and girls, to make their lives better and to give them a fairer deal. In doing so we make friends with lots of like-minded women.
The Club year runs from April 2015 to April 2016 – please refer to our Programme of Events page to see what our plans are for the year. We usually meet once a month on the third Tuesday. Our meetings include hosting speakers relevant to the causes we support, and working on our Programme of Action – the work we do to tackle issues including domestic violence, human trafficking, FGM, women’s education, health and the environment.
The Club supports Soroptimist charities, local charities such as Choices (our local women’s aid) and gives financial and practical support to our friendship link Club – SI Freetown, Sierra Leone which has worked tirelessly to help victims of the Ebola virus. Our members are knitting and sewing items for Ebola orphans and organising events to raise money to get the consignment there.
It is certainly not all work and no play! We enjoy each other’s company at a number of fun and friendship occasions, sometimes set farther ahead, such as our annual dinner, and a club outing in September. Others are planned as the year progresses.
If you would like to attend an event, be a speaker, or are considering membership, please click on Contact Us on the left of the screen, or email firstname.lastname@example.org We are actively seeking new members to boost our numbers (currently 26) and secure the future of a club that has been in existence in Gravesend for 63 years. Come to some of our events if you want to “taste and try before you buy”-forgive the slogan – website administrator’s quirky sense of humour!
