President’s message
I am delighted to have accepted the challenge of becoming the 30th President of Soroptimist International of Guernsey. It is such a lively and vibrant club with supportive and friendly members, many of whom served themselves as presidents. When I reflect on the excellent past leadership of the club it is slightly daunting to take on the role. However, I promise to serve the club to the best of my ability, knowing that I can rely on members’ continuing support, friendship and good humour.
Challenges for the club this year include a number of changes to the Executive Committee, and I am extremely grateful to Kate, Sarah, Shirley and Shona for accepting their roles as President Elect, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary respectively. I also thank those who have agreed to serve as Convenors of our 4 committees: Women as Achievers; Women and Equality; Women, health and Education; and Women and Peace Building.
We have a full and diverse programme of activities and events, fundraising and fun, focusing on our programme action work to make a difference and help to transform the lives of women and girls across the world.
I urge our new members to get involved, speak up at meetings, ask questions and volunteer your skills. It is true that what you put in to your membership as a soroptimist, you will receive support and friendship many times over. Any club is only as successful as its membership is active. I look forward to a busy and productive year with you all.
