ARCHIVE 2009-2010
Presidents for 2009 – 2010
Pictured here at the Sorotimist International Conference in Cardiff 2009, Presidents Anne Chadwick and Jenny Crane, were supporting the conference, ‘Bras in the Bay’ Appeal. Working in conjunction with Oxfam, bras were sent out to Africa, where they are the most highly sought after items of second hand clothing, for women who would otherwise not be able to afford them.

Club Programme Action Activities
Joint Presidents Anne and Jenny chose Yorkshire Air Ambulance as their charity for 2009-2010. Apart from our own fundraising, much could be done to support their ‘Bag it Up’ Campaign, raising funds and helping the environment by recycling Textiles. Members are pictured here at a supper meeting in May, when a talk about YAA was followed by a mass hand over of their ‘yellow bags’ of textiles.
Two new members
We were privileged to enroll two new members, Catherine Leach and Tricia Ashton, at this supper meeting.

Bag it up evening
In April 2010, after a year of fund raising, S I Huddersfield were able to present Yorkshire Air Ambulance with a cheque for £1000. In addition the pink sacks photographed here contain approximately 1600 bras, collected over the year for the YAA Bag It Up Campaign! These will help YAA funds as they are sold on to Fair Trade operatives, but ultimately they will help the women in Africa who will set up small businesses with them, and those who will be able to buy them at an affordable price.

Craft stall at St Stephen’s Church Fayre, Lindley
Members had a busy Autumn knitting, sewing and making craft items for this event. Funds raised were in aid of Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Perhaps just as importantly, every item sold was accompanied with a flyer, telling about the work of YAA, as well as the Soroptimist, locally and internationally.
Here, President Jenny and Secretary Sue, are pictured with some of the produce.

Chernobyl Trust
Members of S I Huddersfield had been gathering small appropriate items during the year. In September, at an activity meeting these were used to fill shoe boxes, covered with Christmas wrapping paper and subsequently they were passed on to the Trust to be transported on, in time for Christmas.Members are shown here with some of the boxes!
