On Thursday the 28th of July we welcomed Sandra Barton and Bill Mitchell from Wharfedale Public Speakers club to the meeting. Bill and Sandra came to give us a taster of what they do in their club which included a prepared speech by Bill on “Sheep dogs” followed by an evaluation from Sandra in which she picked out what he did well and how he kept his audience interested. After this masterclass it was our turn. Thrown in at the deep end we were given a list of topics and asked to pick one that we could talk about for 2 minutes. 7 club members steeped up and took the challenge and did pretty well considering they’d had no time to prepare and the inevitable public speaking nerves. After this Bill gave us an evaluation and on this occassion he had decided to be kind and make it all positive!

Got so much good feedback from everyone about this meeting and if any club members feel that they might benefit from the support and excellent advice offered by Wharfedale Public Speakers Club then I hope they will consider joining them.

Thanks also to Janet and Liz who will both be celebrating a birthday in August. They brought champagne and birthday cake with them to the meeting so that we could join in the fun – thank you!
