President’s Blog

On Saturday 12th March Soroptimist International celebrated their 77th Charter Anniversary. As a result of much hard work it has been a remarkable year in our efforts to improve the lives of women and girls around the world. The President’s Charity has raised money for Alzheimer’s (£900), a local Asperger’s Support Group ((£250) and for Save the Children (£3350) for their work in Sierra Leone. We have continued to support Consulata and her community in Africa. One of our main undertakings for 2011 is to give educational support and sponsorship to Preeti Gamit who is living in the interior village of Vyara taluka, India.  She is undertaking primary teacher’s training course and she is in her second year.  She doesn’t have a father only her mother and two siblings brother/sister. We hope to follow her progress throughout the rest of her training and establish regular communication with her. We have donated to Book Aid, to Girl Guides, Tree Aid, in kind we have supported the City of Sanctuary gaining a Golden Giver Award and made up swimming bags for the Mablethorpe Children’s Home. During the final year of the Soroptimist Quadrennial Project we have made cakes, jams and chutneys held various social events and over the four years in all we have collected £3552 a truly magnificent total. These fantastic amounts of money have not been raised without the efforts of a lot of hard work by many members and the support of their families and friends.

So if you want to join a dynamic, fun loving group of professional women trying to improve the lot of women and girls in the world come and join us.
