Mrs Mary Longworth

President’s message

I am proud to be the president of SI Llandudno and District this year in celebrating the club’s Golden Jubilee.  Although I am not originally from North Wales, I have lived here for 33 years. I started off my career as a nurse but then soon trained to become a midwife, practising locally initially but then based inCardiff after specialising. Seven years ago I took up the post of midwifery lecturer at Bangor University.

I have been a Soroptimist for 5 years now and am confident that my fellow Soroptimists will help and guide me during our special year. The club have a number of Programme Action projects which we will be pursuing this year such as the Bee Project and Mary’s Meals Backpack Project and I look forward to being involved with these new tasks. We will continue to provide service to the local community as well as to national and international projects through advocacy and fundraising. We will also be supporting, through awareness and fundraising, my chosen charity, Macmillan Cancer Support.

My intention this year is to not only to support our on-going successful recruitment campaign, but also to value our existing members. I have organised a few social events and I hope to cater for everyone’s needs. Through our actions this year, I hope that we can show our local and the wider community the value of Soroptimism.
