The ‘Dynamic S’ Takes a Bow
After years of anticipation and speculation, the new logo for Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland - SIGBI – has been launched. It can now be displayed on club websites, promotional materials, letterheads and whatever other inventive uses we can devise. But the 42 pages of guidelines are very strict and can be viewed on SIGBI’s site www.sigbi.org
The “Dynamic S” aims to capture the vibrant and energetic nature of our mission and vision within the stylised image of the female form. It also represents the S for Soroptimists with the dot being seen as the head of the woman or the dot of the “I” for international. The Federation version includes the words, Great Britain & Ireland, but clubs can substitute that for their own name. Regions can do the same. The format can be used in either portrait or landscape versions.
However, this is not the end of the original emblem “The Lady”, the international identity set down in the SI Constitution. She can be used for more ceremonial occasions, including badges, regalia, flags, programmes and brochures. Brand purists might argue that this causes confusion and dilutes building the recognition of a modern image.
There is an additional strapline which can be used, Women inspiring action, transforming lives and again very strict guidelines are laid down on pages 18 to 20 along with typefaces and colour rules further on. As you might expect, nicknames for the Dynamic S are already circulating. These might be regarded as a term of affection !
