Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI) have written a letter to the CEO of Sainsbury’s, Mr Mike Coupe calling on Sainsbury’s to rethink their decision on Fairtrade.

The letter says “It is our aim as Soroptimists to support economic empowerment by ensuring poorer communities such as the African tea farmers can be self-supporting and able to support their own local projects, without having to apply to yet another ‘advisory board’. We fully support the stand that the Fairtrade Foundation is taking and we would ask you (Sainsbury’s) to rethink your decision and the impact it will have on the poorest people in our global community.”
