Congratulations to new Soroptimist International (SI) President, Mariet Verhoef-Cohen, who has taken over the reins from Yvonne Simpson, who we thank for her leadership over the past two years.
Mariet is looking forward to attending the SIGBI Conference in Cardiff, and says that the Conference theme, “Step Up, Lead the Way”, is highly appropriate as we explore paths to secure the future of our Organisation.
“There are important challenges in our role as a “global voice for women”! Working together, Soroptimists throughout the world can lead the way to achieving gender equality. We know that empowering women and girls with more choices and greater freedom is crucial to ensuring a better future.
Let us use our influence to lead the way to a world free from poverty and with human rights for all, with no abuse and where women are treated with respect and dignity. In this spirit, I look forward to seeing you in Cardiff!”
Bev Bucur has been elected as International Director of Advocacy, taking over from Pat Black, and Hafdís Karlsdóttir is the new International Assistant Director of Advocacy.
We wish them all the best in their new roles, and we say a special thank you to Members of Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI), Pat Black, outgoing SI Director of Advocacy, and Bozena Benton, outgoing SI HR Liaison, for their time, commitment and dedication to the work of Soroptimist International.

SI held its annual Board meeting in Rotterdam from 27 to 29 July 2017, where the SI Board made several important decisions to ensure a viable future for SI. They included a new Board structure, which will commence on the 1 January 2018 and approving an SI dues increase of £2, which means fees per member will increase from £3 to £5 from 2019.
