SIGBI Conference London 2023

After an eventful trip Erene and Anne made it to London for the 2023 SIGBI conference

SIGBI Conference Liverpool 2018

This October we gathered on the windy shores of the Mersey for another interesting and stimulating SGBI conference. Together with business matters and news of many worthwhile projects around the Federation we were treated to an array of world famous speakers; Terry Waite told us of his time as a hostage in Beirut, Professor Pankhurst spoke of the legacy left by her great grandmother and Sir Ranulph Fiennes shared his passion for adventure.

We heard about the contribution that Soroptimism can make toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and International President Mariet Verhoef-Cohen gave an update on the Women, Water and Leadership Appeal.

Alongside the important business matters of the conference members found time to explore the many attractions of the city including a trip across the Mersey on the Razzle Dazzle Ferry.

SIGBI Cardiff 2017 Conference

The 83rd Conference was held at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff, practically on our door step so 13 Soroptimists from Milford Haven attended for three days of stimulating presentations and discussions….and just a little entertainment and fun.

The speakers included Michael Kaufman of the White Ribbon campaign, Rebecca Lewin of Plan International, Mandy Hicks former RAF Tornado Pilot and Dame Katherine Grainger Olympian. What a line up!

Volunteering our services as stewards at the opening ceremony on Thursday evening we dressed in red for the occasion.

Presidents Sheila (left) and Trisha beside the flags of all the territories in the SIGBI federation from Anguilla to Zimbabwe, reminding us of the  international dimension to our organisation.

“Best conference ever” was one member’s verdict and certainly all the attendees enjoyed the excellent variety of speakers including Helen Sharman, the first British astronaut, Dave Coplin, Chief Envisioning Officer for Microsoft and Dame Professor Sue Ion an expert on the nuclear power industry who spoke to the theme of Engineering the Future. Congratulations to Immediate Past President Margaret Emsley for a wonderful conference. The next conference will be in Cardiff October 2017.
