President Jean’s Welcome

My installation as Regional President for North West England and the Isle of Man
at the Federation Conference 2011 in Brighton was a very proud moment for me. I
hope that during my year of office I will use my position and skills wisely and
be a good ambassador for Soroptimism.

Soroptimism is going through a period of great change – welcomed by many but unsettling for
some. Change is with us, has been and will always be there.  Change is about making something different. This could be a major change or series of
gradual changes.

For the region change is about moving forward and taking our people and culture with
us.

The 3E Project : Healthcare

This three year project for the Federation was announced in October 2011 at Brighton
Conference. I am sure that the Region will support this initiative wholeheartedly.

SPACE

The SPACE centre in Preston is my chosen charity for the year. SPACE is unique. It is the
largest multi-sensory environment in the UK for people with special needs. Over
230 groups from throughout North West England visit the centre each month,
including special schools, respite care homes, families and play schemes. SPACE
caters for a wide range of disabilities including Cerebral Palsy, Profound  Multiple Disabilities, Autism and brain
injuries.

SI Kumba

This club from the Cameroon has a friendship link with the region. During the year I hope
to increase support for SI Kumba and encourage joint projects.

Girlguiding UK

As an active member of Girlguiding I am keen to promote the co-operation between the two
organisations. I know that clubs in the region are looking for opportunities to
work with local units and look forward to hear of joint activities.
