The Whitley Great Ox Festival
The  Great Ox immortalised in the work of Thomas Bewick in 1789 made its return to Whitley Bay Town Centre after 200 years.  The Whitley Bay Chamber of Trade – in partnership with Soroptimist International Tynemouth, Whitley Bay and District, Natural History Society of Northumbria, Friends of St Mary’ Lighthouse – organised a Great Ox Festival.  Over 17 local Schools took part in the art, poetry and ice cream recipe competitions with 25 books being donated by the late Soroptimist Molly Wright Trust Fund and signed by Michael Rosen, Children’s Poet Laureate.
