Soroptimist International of Northwich and District was chartered in 1949 when a group of professional women with drive, ambition and energy set up as a group to offer service, raise money and help others in need.
Although we live in a much changed world, this is what we still do today, working to improve the lives of women and girls. We work within our vision ‘to Educate, Enable and Empower’ women and girls around the world. We work hard, through projects but also enjoy great fun and friendship whilst doing so, and gain great satisfaction from knowing we make a valued contribution in our local community, and also nationally and internationally.
Service is an important element of our work here at SI Northwich, and the essence is to spread friendship and happiness through helping others, looking after vulnerable people and assisting members in need through our Welfare Programme, especially the elderly or bereaved.
We continue to support our local womens’ charities, Cheshire Without Abuse who work with women and children who have been subjected to Domestic Abuse and Motherwell, a local charity which supports women and girls in our local area.
Previously members have helped out at the Vale Royal Contact Centre, at our local Stroke Club and with Homestart a UK charity for supporting young families which guides women in homemaking, as well as with Cotswold House which provides temporary accommodation for homeless women aged 16 – 35 for all areas of Cheshire West and Chester.
In 2021 Soroptimist International celebrated its centenary and the aim of the Club and Region was to raise awareness of Soroptimist International and to underline the fact that we are members of a global organisation. Our current focus is on the environment and climate change most clearly set out in our current project of ReCycle and ReUse.
As a Club we have participated in activities at the Cheshire Show, Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod,and the annual Victorian Christmas Fair in Hartford among other events. We have also been represented at Motherwell events for International Womens Day.
Our members meet at least once a month throughout the year. Our Meeting is on the second Tuesday of the month, at the Lighthouse in Weaverham and we often have other social events.
