Making Feminine Hygiene Products

In Sierra Leone, as in many other African countries, girls are often unable to attend school when they are menstruating due to a lack of sanitary products, and therefore have to stay at home.

As part of Project Sierra, Soroptimists were asked to sew washable pads, made using soft waterproof material with pretty bags to keep them in. There was a ‘Sewing Bee’ held at a member’s house, and 10 were produced in time to take to the conference in Harrogate.

There are plans to make further batches, now that we all know what we are doing!
