SI Nottingham joins #bringbackourgirls

SI Nottingham joined the #BringBackOurGirls campaign by attending an event in Nottingham on 7th May 2014. The event was organised to highlight the plight of the 200 Nigerian schoolgirls who were abducted from school.

President Viv Pearson says “It was a truly moving event as we remembered the girls and their families. The aim was to raise awareness of the plight of the girls abducted in Nigeria and their families and also, to stand up for the education and rights of girls and women everywhere”.

At the event, outside the Council House in Nottingham, candles were lit and the names of all the abducted girls were read out.

Federation President Margaret Oldroyd – also a member of SI Nottingham – has recently written to Foreign Secretary William Hague urging the UK Government to strongly press the Nigerian Government to take action on the ground to end this situation and return the girls to their families.
