On Thursday 17 November 2011, in conjunction with the Broadstone Players, we enjoyed a fund raising Night at the Theatre. Broadstone Players performed ‘Biting the Bullet’, a poignant, very funny and uplifting play by Frank Vickery. Guests enjoyed a pre-drinks reception before taking their seats for the play, which everyone enjoyed enormously. After the curtain came down, there was an opportunity to meet the cast and director. It was very interesting to talk to the actors about the roles they had played and also to meet them as ‘real’ people!

Eighty people came to the evening after which Broadstone Players donated a magnificent £400 to SI Poole’s charity fund with additional monies being raised from a raffle.

There was a large display on SI Poole and on the Purple Teardrop Campaign, one of President Carol’s nominated charities. We also sold Purple Teardrop pin badges, and greetings cards created by the late Joan Blencowe, who had donated them to raise funds for the Purple Teardrop Campaign.

Broadstone Players have decided to offer the Thursday night performance of each of their full-length plays to a charity and Poole Soroptimists were delighted to be the beneficiary of the first of these events.

All enjoyed the great atmosphere of the event where thousands of women walked, jogged and ran to raise funds for Cancer Research. With £600 raised between them, our team enjoyed the brisk 5km circuit from Poole Park to Whitecliffe harbourside and returning to Poole Park to the cheers of supporters and well wishers.
