Project Raigadh  was a Cancer Awareness & Detection Camp for Tribal Women – a recent joint project by our club and our friendship link club,SI North Bombay, staged to ensure Health Care for Tribal Women and Girls through Advocacy and Health Check Up.

 The holding of a Cancer Awareness and Detection Camp ensured a check-up for one hundred tribal women from fifteen villages at Jeevanalaya Health Centre, Raigadh, which is 60 Kms. away from Mumbai.

 Health education was given with audio visual aids in the local languages.

After the awareness programme, the women were sent in batches for registration and case history. They were examinised in different rooms – blood test for detection of cancer were done; X-rays of the chest were taken to see any lung infection.

Forty-four women were diagnosed of serious conditions needing follow up with the doctors.

Three women were diagnosed for cancer – cervical, thyroid and caicinoma and requested to refer to Tata Cancer Hospital. Other diagnoses were : 20 women had cervicites others had fibroses, vascular nodes etc. some of them were acutely anemic, 17 women have caries teeth, 6 women have nasal septum etc. - all are now are getting treated at the local hospital. Forty-five women did not need follow-up.
