What’s On – 2011/2012

We have tried to cover several areas for our meetings and social calendar. It’s difficult to suit so many people with so many diverse interests and likes but HOPEFULLY everyone will like something we do this year.

DATES FOR THE DIARY

May 4th     Business Meeting and Time of Reflection

May 18th – Social Meeting – This meeting will be covering the entertainment and inspirational women theme.

Doris and Elsie will come and tell us about their lives. Doris and Elsie are married to Len and Bert and get up to all sorts of adventures – mainly trying to make sure that Len and Bert avoid her from No. 4 who, frankly, is a strumpet. The tales are told in verse and written by Cath and Ann late of Maureen Cookson in Whalley… Not sure who the inspirational women are here – Cath and Ann for having such fun writing the verses and in so doing raising so much money for Derian House – or is it Doris and Elsie for facing life with such fun! Join us on the 18th and you can decide!

June 2nd      Business Meeting followed by member Lynn Yates and husband Norman giving us a presentation on PIES.

June 15th – Social Meeting – This meeting covers the adventurous theme.

Steve Cushing is to come and tell us his many adventures about his time doing the Marathon Des Sables.

June 29th – We are having a fundraising evening at Our Lady and St Edward’s Church Hall, Marlborough Drive in Fulwood with OneVoice Community Choir. This will be a fantastic evening with a feel good factor second to none. Anyone who doesn’t like to enjoy themselves better not come to this!

Tickets are £10 each and refreshments – wonderful home made cakes and tea or coffee – are included.

Be there or be square.

July  6th      Business Meeting

July 27th    Summer Outing.
This year the plan is that we will go to Stonyhurst College in Hurst Green for a tour and follow that will a meal in the Ribble Valley. A great time of year to go visit the Ribble Valley.

July 11th – We are having a ‘works’ do’ travelling to Yorkshire. We are off to afternoon tea at TV’s famous floral arranger Carl Wilde. Carl and his partner John provide afternoon tea in their sensational garden (weather allowing) when we have been told to forget the calories followed by Carl demonstrating his talents with three fabulous arrangements which we will raffle off amongst us. It’ll be wonderful.

Sept. 7th      Business Meeting

Sept. 21st     This meeting will cover creativity and an inspirational woman. After a career in Hotel Management Jane Fox started Fired 4 U in Walton le Dale. She will tell us how she started the business and why and in between will do a demonstration. No doubt one or two of the members will volunteer to show how creative they are!

Oct. 5th       Business Meeting

Oct. 19th      Friendship Evening – An Evening of Halloween Fun.

Nov. 2nd       Business Meeting

Nov. 16th Bearing in mind that it is World Aids Day on December 1st we will be having a talk on HIV Awareness from Tony Mulcahey. This will no doubt be an emotive and possibly hard to listen to talk. We hope to work with Tony with some Programme Action work nearer the time.

Dec 7th        Business Meeting

Dec 5th        Christmas Meal. This is to be during the evening for a change. In recent years we have had a Christmas lunch. The venue is Truffles Restaurant in Whittle le Woods. The food will be excellent, the company brilliant and the plan is to have some entertainment too.

Jan. 18th      The meeting this week is to be a Member’s Evening – not sure quite what yet but it’ll be great!

Feb. 1st      Business Meeting

Feb. 5th      73rd Charter Celebration.

As 2012 is Guild year and also the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the club is holding a charter event with a difference.  It will be a Street Party – clearly it won’t be in the street as its in February.  It is to be held at Barton Grange with a buffet lunch and entertainment by 4th Fulwood Unit Brownies, Dewsbury Club and members of SI Preston.  The Toast to Soroptimist Internation will be by Irene Curtis.

Feb. 15th    Another evening of education. Tonight we will listen to Emma Haselwood from the Harris Museum. Emma is the Keeper of History and will tell us the history of Preston Guild – as its 2012 and another Guild is upon us – we thought it apt.

Mar. 7th      Business Meeting

Mar. 21st    This meeting will be a ‘jolly’ – sort of.  We are off to the SPACE centre in Ashton.  Members will be able to look round the centre and no doubt have a bitof a play on the equipment before listening to Hilary Holden talk about the centre.

Apr. 4th      In a change to normal practise – President Karen decided to hold her President’s Evening at the end of her year. She says it is to say thank you to everyone for their support. She has no idea of what or where but guess what – it’ll be great!

Apr. 20th     AGM and the plan is to follow the AGM with a members’ meal out.
