President’s Message

Yvonne Johns – President 2011 – 2012

I was honoured to be installed as President of S. I. Rhyl and District on Wednesday 13th April.  I was President in the year 2000-1, the beginning of a new Millennium and since that time I have been able to gain more experience of Soroptimism and hopefully a lot wiser, more confident and better prepared to take on the Presidency of Club again.

The year ahead will have its challenges, but we aim to recruit more members, have fun and friendship whilst carrying out our programme and projects.

This coming year the theme will be based on Education Healthy Lifestyle and the Environment. As we live in a beautiful part of Wales and by the Sea we will be making good use in our Project work.  It is our intention to work with schools and young people, support the local women’s Network and continue to work with contact the elderly.  In our environment we aim to help make it a more pleasant place to be , with clean beaches, tidy coastal pathways  and  awareness of the damage and cost unwanted and waste medicines and chemicals can do,  None of this of course being possible without the support of the  wider team of Club members

Now I am semi retired still doing some consultancy mainly to do with Advisory work and training in Education  when not working I am involved in Service in the Community  by way of  being Vice Chair of Betsi Cadwaldr Community Health Board.  A member of Diabetes UK Advisory Council and facilitate Public Patient Reference groups for Diabetes.  I am also Vice Chair of the Long Term Conditions Alliance for the Welsh Assembly Government. In addition I act as an advocate for Teaching Professionals

As you may know I am also the Membership Officer for Region and for a number of years have arranged for hotel accommodation and travel to our Federation Conferences. This year I am looking forward to going to the Brighton conference and   Montreal, Canada for my first International Conference.

When I get spare time!! I enjoy amongst others, travel, art and crafts, music, cooking and painting.
