What a busy Bee! lot we have been at Rhyl & District Sorops! Our President , and members have been supporting PAC and having fun whilst they have been hard at it! Our President’s Bee Project involved a lot of work ensuring that schools in the area received baskets of samples of different types of honey, Beeswax and samples of bi products from Honey and wax, together with a learning resource pack and seeds ensuring they were ‘hands on’ with planting to attract the bees to ensure we all continue to enjoy the fruits of their labour, from honey through to the fertilisation of our orchards and plants. Each child received Bee badge. The members also planted seeds of Sunflowers and it culminated with a competion at out last meeting with two members winning prizes.

1st Prize was awarded to Mrs. Brigitte Lloyd-Jones

Our Charter Dinner included the celebration of the Royal Wedding and a presentation to our long Serving member Jean Fazackerley by our Regional President Jacqui Weatherill accompanied by some very melodic harp music and talented singer Joanne Wagstaff.

The club also had a reflection afternoon at Bodelwyddan Castle in which provided some very interesting interaction between the members and a highly satisfactory healthy high tea!

Our club also organised a Fashion Show/Recruitment evening attracting possible new members at the Kinmel Manor Hotel, we were very fortunate to have very good quality clothing donated from our members and families to support this event – the united chant that could be heard reverberating around the venue was “I am only parting with this because it doesn’t fit me any more…. a window of opportunity for some sponsored weight loss through healthy eating here me thinks…

The Cheshire Show was a resounding success-lots of contacts made and our stand along with the others introduced Soroptimism to many and raised awareness of who we are and what we do.

Building on the Cheshire Show, our President and President Elect went charging around the Cheshire countryside in persuit of promised cheeses (to help the wine go down!) for our Medeival Night at Bodrhyddan Hall and came back with a veritable cornucopia of cheeses donated very generously to the cause. We raised a £1000 for Diabetes UK towards Pancreatic Research being carried out at Bangor University and £1000 for St Kentigerns Hospice all accompanied by magnificent performances by the Amici Del Canto Choir and the very talented auctioning skills of a local auctioneer. Very grateful thanks go to Lord and Lady Langford for their support and loan of the splendid venue and to the members who offered unstinting support throughout.

Just before we recessed for August we joined in with the Rhyl in Bloom and some of the members planted tubs at Rhyl Railway Station to help improve the ambiance and look of the Station.

If we include the Contact the Elderly Tea Parties, Friendship BBQ’s, and the hundred and one other things we do as a club, Rhyl & District Sorops will be continuing to be ‘Busy Bees’ with their Keep Wales Tidy Week by doing a river clean at Rhuddlan and be continuing to be ‘Busy Bees’ for a long time to come!
