OUR SOCIAL LIFE

SUMMER AT MARTHOLME

Member enjoyed a lunch in the sunshine at the cafe in Read Garden Centre followed by a guided tour round Martholme Manor.

Phillipa and Neil were so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the house, its history and the restoration that each one of us thoroughly enjoyed the visit followed by tea in the servants kitchen.

A real gem in our little town and well worth a visit.

WAGONERS AND TOWNLEY HALL

Members enjoyed good company and a delightful meal at The Wagoners during the summer followed by a wander round the grounds and Hall at Townley.

ORIGAMI

Who knew that folding paper could be so much fun!

The ancient Japanese art was explained humorously and concisely as Steve  demonstrated how to create the perfect box.

All involved fashioned their very own object d’art  (ie a box) and enjoyed the company as well as the supper provided by members.

GREAT DAY OUT!

It was a great day out first with lunch at Bashall Barn and then a conducted tour of Browsholme Hall.

SOROPTIMISTS KEEP FIT!

Keeping Fit is on everyone’s minds these days but often we are not sure which type of exercise suits us.

Donna Pope came to show members Chair Based Exercises which is designed to suit everyone.

Donna showed us  how to use basic equipment at varying degrees of difficulties so that everyone felt they were working at their own levels.

Everyone agreed it was great fun and were enthusiastic to join Donna’s classes in the future.

WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY

What a wonderful day we had in the lakes this summer as we took a coach to Haverthwaite calling off at Kirby Londsdale and then taking the steam train Lakeside.

We cruised across Windermere to Bowness where we had lunch, shopped and enjoyed the sights.

The weather was glorious making the whole trip a memorable and delightful day.

INSTALLATION OF NEW PRESIDENT IS ALWAYS AN ENJOYABLE EVENING

Our Installation Dinner at Sparth House was a very enjoyable occasion. A lovely meal with good friends.

MANCHESTER SHIP CANAL

Our summer outing this year was a trip in a narrow boat on the Manchester Ship Canal.  Lunch was served on board as we sailed along the Bridgewater Canal to the ship canal.  We had a short stay at the Lowry Centre where we split up to enjoy shopping, sight seeing or the war museum.

SINGING FOR FUN WITH AILSA

Members enjoyed an evening of singing with Ailsa who led everyone in creating harmonious sounds with influences from a variety of countries.

DAY OUT AT SALMESBURY HALL

We had a lovely day out first by enjoying a beautiful lunch and then wandering around the 14th Century Hall and gardens.

We all agreed that we would certainly return as the food and the service were both excellent.

FELT MAKING WITH ROSIE

Members enjoyed a very creative evening as Rosie led a workshop on Feltmaking, showing us various techniques.

Some of us were more ambitious than others but we all produced a unique work of art.

Our Home made scones and raffle raised £40 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Raising funds is always a good excuse for fun and friendship as well as good food.
