President’s message

Message from President Christine Davies
This photo was taken in March 2010 when shortly before the end of her year of office our then President Hilary Laidler (on the right), presented a ‘big’ cheque to the Chairman of the Trustees of the Hampshire and IOW Air Ambulance. (I’m the one holding the other end of the cheque.) Our activities to raise this money had included making a collection on the Itchen Toll Bridge on 11th December 2009 when we were joined by the Rotary Club of Southampton Magna. Only a limited number of such collections are permitted each year and there is a long waiting list of applicants so we were really pleased to finally have the opportunity to do this for such a worthwhile cause.
This year sees the climax of Project Sierra – the Soroptimist International Quadrennial Project, and we are already planning our annual Quiz Night next March to raise as much as we can for this work. To learn more about the success that this project is having in helping women and children made homeless or orphaned by the Civil War in that country go to www.projectSIerra.org
The rest of our fundraising in 2010/11 will be channelled through our own Charitable Fund to support various club projects. Click on the Projects link on the left to find out about these.
If you live or work in Southampton or the surrounding area and would like to become involved and help us make a difference, whilst at the same time making new friends and enjoying social contact, please get in touch.
We look forward to meeting you.
