Social and Fund-raising Events 2010 – 2011

Annual Lunch

On Sunday 6th February 2011, President Janet hosted a lunch for members and friends at Paris Restaurant in Chalkwell.

The restaurant was full and the atmosphere lively. Guests from other clubs included Regional President Jean with her husband Jack, Dorothy from our mother club in East London, Chelmsford President Linda, former Federation Councillor Ineke from Sudbury and friends from Colchester.

There was a good crowd of our own members and we enjoyed good food and pleasant wine. The speaker, a crime writer and community worker with the Balmoral Project was excellent and had the assembled company enthralled and laughing at his experiences.

Thanks again to President Janet and the Social Committee for a great event!

Project SIerra Lunch

Lunch on Canvey Island this year took place on 27th March. The weather was lovely and the view great, as usual! This year, only 18 people were booked in so that everyone could sit down to eat!

Margaret and Sharon cooked a three-course meal with choices at each course – delicious! Professional service was provided by Susan and Joe, so that the whole event took in the atmosphere of a  busy restaurant. President Janet and guests were delighted with the day!

Together with a raffle, £125 was raised for Project Sierra together with £150 for prize money for our Bags for the Refuges competition at the local college.

Thanks to everyone concerned – including Lynne, who organised the raffle. Another good event!

Summer Lunch

President Janet held a summer lunch at her home on Saturday 31st August. A good crowd of members, partners and friends came along. The food was delicious, the raffle seemed to go on for ever and the laughter level was exceedingly high!

There was a garden party atmosphere, which took us back over the many years this event has been held – it has been a feature of our programme for at least ten years now - originally at Lysette’s house, and now at Janet’s. Jackie was of course, in charge of drinks and the Pimms was very good, though since some of us were driving, one glass was sufficent – but then for all of us, with Jackie’s Pimms, one glass is sufficient … but it’s so delicious, more than one is tempting!

Over £400 was raised for the Balmoral Centre – the President’s charity fund is mounting steadily.

Raffle for Trolley Dash

President Janet organsied a raffle for a trolley dash at Somerfield in Westcliff and we managed to sell enough tickets to cover our costs and to donate about £100 to the President’s Project. Volunteers sold tickets both at the store and to people we knew. When the reffle was drawn, the winner had donated their ticket to the Balmoral Centre, so they will benefit twice – they will do the trolley dash  soon.

BBQ

Janet’s garden was again glorious for the BBQ, which she and Steve kindly hosted on 6th June for the President’s Project. As usual, the food was excellent and the company very good! The weather was kind and everyone managed to eat their fill, before the garden was cleared by a shower of rain!

The BBQ raised £225 for the Balmoral Centre.

Coffee Morning

Immediate Past President Jackie started this year’s fund raising for the Balmoral Centre by hosting a Coffee Morning, on 22nd May. There was a raffle and cake sale, with Cathy selling her delicious home made cakes. The President’s Project fund was off to a good start as the morning raised £130.
