Girl Guide Sophie Fundraising to work on Nepal Projects

75-Sophie HicksThe Club was delighted to welcome Sophie Hicks to their meeting. Sophie gave a presentation on her forthcoming trip to Nepal 27 July to 9 Aug with Girl Guiding Anglia and Projects Abroad where she will be working with local schools and orphanages in Kathmandu as they struggle to recover from the earthquake that took place in April 2015.

Sophie is a local Girl Guide Rainbow Leader and year 11 student from Beaumont School. Click here to read the excellent presentation that Sophie delivered: Girlguiding trip to Nepal 2017 Soroptimists the trip has an open Facebook page, so for updates throughout the trip this is where you’ll be able find out more https://www.facebook.com/NepalGGAnglia2017/

To qualify for the trip Sophie has to raise the money to pay for it – so she asked if she could come and speak to the Club. We of course agreed and asked her to bring cakes with her for us to buy to have with our tea and coffee. The Club gave Sophie a cheque for £25 and she also received £59.50 in donations directly from Members – making a grand total of £84.50 which she was thrilled with – afterwards she said “When you said that the ladies were generous, I didn’t quite realise how generous they would be! The donations have made a really big difference so I cannot say thank you enough! Everyone was so lovely and made me feel completely at ease, I am looking forward to returning after my trip.”

We hope that Sophie may be able to make contact with the Kathmandu Soroptimists while she’s in Nepal. We’re looking forward to hearing all about the trip when she comes back!
