President’s message

Message from theJudy Club President Judy Faraday

Welcome to our Club!  You may be unfamiliar with the work of the Soroptimists in St Albans but we have been working on projects to transform the lives of women and girls both locally and worldwide for over 50 years and that work continues today.

As a club we meet approximately twice a month and these meetings include hosting speakers relevant to our causes, club business, and working on Programme Action which is the way we tackle issues including women’s education, trafficking, the environment, health and domestic violence. But it is certainly not all work and no play!  We arrange social events which help raise funds for the charities we support and which enable us to enjoy each other’s company in a less formal environment.  This year will include events such as a Jazz and Salsa night and a Safari Supper. As our organisation is worldwide we have links with clubs all over the world from Osaka in Japan to Warsaw in Poland.

Our new international long term project is designed to help improve education for women.  Amongst other projects,we provide a bursary for women studying sciences at The University of Hertfordshire and are working with partners in women’s cricket to help train women cricket coaches for the future.

The club’s main charity for the third consecutive year is the St Albans and Hertsmere Women’s Refuge. We have assisted them in practical ways by helping provide basic necessities for the Refuge and collecting items the women need when they move on into their own homes.  We have also raised funds for other projects allowing the Refuge to develop the valuable work they do. We very much welcome any support so that we can go that little bit further.

If you would like to attend an event, be a speaker, or are considering membership, please click on Contact Us on the left of the screen, or email sistalbans@hotmail.com

We would love to hear from you
