International Women’s Day 2010

Women on the Bridge for Peace

Club members joined women worldwide to celebrate and campaign for peace and women’s development by gathering on the Swilkin Bridge on the Old Course at St. Andrews to take part in the worldwide event “Women on the Bridge”, which was designed to unite women all over the globe in showing they can build the bridges of peace and development.   They were joined on the bridge by members from SI Dundee and Aberdeen, and representatives from the St. Andrews Rainbows, Brownies and Guides and St. Andrews University Students.   Similar events were held by Soroptimists around the UK as they stood alongside women in the Democratic Republic if Congo, Rwanda, Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Iraq, Sudan and Nigeria in saying No to war and Yes to peace, development and hope.
